The Phantom of the Opera

Dave Gorman's Googlewhack! Adventure

Perhaps you’ve heard of a Googlewhack. If not, it’s a pair of otherwise unconnected words that, when entered into the Google search engine returns with a single website hit in the whole world wide web. The owner of the website is also a Googlewhack.
 

Googlewhacks are not easy to find, but it’s easy to waste plenty of time looking for them — as Dave Gorman well knows. But he also gathered a hilarious set of stories about the people and exploits he encountered along the way. The truth becomes unbelievable as Gorman darts around the stage luring you into his outlandish world, tale by tale.

Miami City Ballet's Program I

Donizetti Variations

A light and cheerful ballet, with highly acrobatic choreography, challenging jumps along and precision footwork, George Balanchine’s Donizetti Variations is set to the music of Gaetano Donizetti from the opera Don Sebastian.

 

Prodigal Son

This one-act ballet is filled with themes of sin and redemption.  Passionate and compelling, it is based on the well-known Biblical tale and is one of George Balanchine’s oldest ballets.  Revived by Edward Villella in 1960 it received great acclaim and is considered a true showpiece for the male lead. 

 

“THE QUICK-STEP: Unspeakable Jazz Must Go!”

Get ready to go back in time to a 1920s speakeasy filled with flappers and jazzy tunes. This ballet is the second act of Edward Villella’s fabulous full-length dance work The Neighborhood Ballroom. See a large cast of dancers do The Charleston and “The Quick-Step.” Enjoy a spectacular set, the colorful costumes of the time and feel the vibrant energy of the Jazz Age.

Negroni's Trio featuring Ed Callé, Saxophone
José Negroni, a brilliant pianist and composer of remarkable creativity "sparkles with unrestrained passion." - All About Jazz. One of Miami's hottest new jazz groups, the Negroni Trio fuses straight ahead jazz, classical lyricism and Latin Caribbean beats. The Trio includes drummer Nomar Negroni and bassist Rafael Valencia. Celebrated saxophonist Ed Callé will make a special appearance.

Meet at ll:45 AM in the lobby of the New River Inn (Old Fort Lauderdale Museum of History) and you will be on your way by noon. Space to Experience: The Sculpture of Magdalena Abakanowicz

World–renowned sculptor Abakanowicz creates a place for contemplation at the Museum with a major installation of her haunting bronze figures. She describes them as "survivors of a violent history" and as "unknown neighbors I must get used to, and who I have to accept." The sculptures have a powerful presence – 95 life-size figures stand in large groups as an anonymous crowd. Abakanowicz, born in Falenty, Poland, in 1930, currently lives and works in Warsaw.

Susan May Tell's black-and-white photographs of the relics and abandoned property of the Auschwitz concentration camp are powerful poetic images. So begins The Storymakers' delightful new production, Once Upon A Time…In Florida, which brings these tales vividly to life. With storytelling, pantomime, music, and drama, the energetic young cast invites children to decipher fact from fiction and to enter a world where if you can think it, there it is!
